Runaway Project Support
Runaway projects are the most difficult for clients and venders alike. We all envision the successful outcome of the project at its inception. But history shows us that as many as 75% of the projects undertaken do not achieve their defined goals and better than 25% are true failures that are never used. The Standish Group has published a number of studies over the last 10 years that reflect numbers that are significant in their relationship to IT practices and our failures to use them.
The success rate of Information Technology (IT) projects has not improved greatly over the last 20 years, according to a recent study done by the Standish Group International Corp., Dennis, Mass. This study confirms a success rate which varies from 9% for large organizations to an amazing 28% for small ones. The following chart outlines their findings:

The above categories can best be defined by the following:
Successful - The project is completed on time, on budget, with all features & functions as initially specified.
Challenged - The project is completed but is over budget, over estimate, and offers fewer features & functions than originally specified.
Canceled - The project is canceled before achieving any usable results.
According to this study, a number of factors have contributed significantly to the challenged & canceled project rates. They include:
Incomplete requirements,
Lack of user involvement,
Changing requirements,
Lack of executive support,
Technology incompetence,
Unrealistic time frames,
Unclear objectives,
Lack of planning and others.
Most of these issues can be addressed directly by the use of a robust methodology and solid Project/Engagement management. TORNIEL has the experience to successfully identify the reasons for a project's failure, identify a course or courses of actions which the client can take to remediate the situation, and support the client's efforts to execute those actions.
Our consultants have had experience successfully doing this for companies such as:
 American Airlines,
 CSX Transportation,
 Burlington Northern Railroad,
 GTE Directory Services,
 and others...
Let us help you turn a less than desirable situation into a successful one.
